Today we chose to stay at the Rockhound State Park and just rest...well, almost. It was a cold morning, but we did need to go to the visitor's center and register for tonight. While there, we walked the Jasper Trail which brought us back up the hill to the camping area. After lunch, we read and napped, then decided that Hobbes definitely needed a walk. We roamed the Desert Garden area, then set out up the Thunder egg Trail. We enjoyed the ramble and the view, but failed to find either a thunder egg or a geode. In case you don't know, as I did not, both rocks are round in shape, but a geode is hollow inside (usually containing minerals) while a thunder egg is solid. Folk legend says that thunder eggs were named by the ancients who believed that when the gods got angry, they shouted, threw thunder, lightning, and these rocks at each other.
The rain has finally reached us. We have watched it roam across the valley most of the day. I predict good sleeping tonight.
